Presidential Election - And the winner is.... still pending

Every four years the people of the United States elect a new president through electoral votes. Currently, there is a race going on between the Republican candidate President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden to reach the White House. The latter seems to be in a good position to become the next president of the country but will this change anything for America.

If everything goes as it is going, Joe Biden will be the 46th President of the country that means 46 times Americans have given someone the power to hold the most powerful office of the country and take decisions for their welfare. The leaders that we send to the House of Representatives and Senate are supposed to make laws in the best interest of the American people, do they?

Corruption and scandals have long been a feature of American politics. Some of them are morally corrupt others financially. These leaders talk about the integrity of the institutions and on the other side, there have been rarely any leader who has enjoyed a reputation for political probity and institutional integrity.

The 2020 presidential election is still on with official results yet to be announced. Results are coming in with every minute along with claims of election frauds and vote infringement. This is the first time in the history of the country that the counting is still going on even 4 days after Election Day. More than 200 lawsuits have been submitted in different courts regarding violation of election laws. Ballots are still coming in because the government rejected to provide the Postal Service with the needed funds to carry out the job. In recent years, governments around the world have taken steps to increase transparency in their electoral process. The United States claims that its electoral process is clear as crystal and there is no chance of electoral fraud. This claim gives way to some questions if the electoral process is fraud-free then why there were allegations of foreign meddling in the 2016 presidential elections. Why more than 200 lawsuits have been filed against election laws violations? These concerns should be addressed to make the electoral process transparent.

Additionally, it would not be wrong to say that United States politics is full of corruption and hypocrisy. They ask the public to obey the law, pay their taxes, and use illegal means to make their properties while don’t have to worry about paying the taxes. Politics in America has become a business politicians are no longer lawmakers. American Senate and House is now a club of wealthy business owners where they make laws for their benefits.

The hypocrisy of the American political institution is evident in several cases where politicians are currently under indictment and are holding public offices at the same time. Mayor of Rochester Lovely Warren is holding a public office while she is going through trial regarding finance violations. Similarly, former Mayor of Fall Rivers Jasiel Correia was arrested in 2018 on charges related to marijuana, tax, and wire fraud. Other politicians facing charges include North Dakota State Senator Tom Campbell, Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley, Indiana Congressman Luke Messer, and the list goes on.

The Mighty Have Fallen’ is a book that we suggest you to read to get a clearer picture of the corruption in American politics. The book gives an account of the FBI investigations into the political corruption of the United States. It provides its readers with the stories that are important to be known by ordinary Americans to know the integrity of their politicians and to help them judge better and chose better for the country and for their generations to come.
